Drawstring Gift Bags
Over the past month I’ve been planning my best friend’s bachelorette party (which is later tonight!) and one of the problems I encountered was finding something as simple as gift bags! They were all too small and I found myself wasting more time hunting down gift bags than actually planning the events for the evening. Like any other frustrated crafty gal, I decided I would just make them myself! These are perfect for any gift giving occasion and simple to make!
1 yard of fabric – I made 15 gift bags so you may need another yard if making more(I used a close-knit tulle fabric for mine)
Thread in a coordinating color
Ribbon (I used 1 ½ spools of 1/8 inch width ribbon)
Depending on the contents that are going into your gift bag you can adjust your measurements for the bags.
I measured and cut two pieces of fabric both 8 ½” by 6”. Change your stitch width to a smaller stitch if you’re working with a sheer or gauze like fabric. Change your needle alignment to the right so you’re getting as close to the edge as possible.
Match your two pieces of fabric up, pinning if needed. Sew around three sides of the fabric, leaving one end open. Trim off excess fabric around edges.
Fold open edge down about a ½ inch or more depending on width of ribbon you’re using. Change needle alignment to the left and sew around entire hem. Turn bag inside out and push corners out.
Make a small slit near one of the edges. Put a small safety pin on the end of your ribbon and feed through slit around the top of the bag.
Tie ends in a knot, snip off the extra ribbon, and you’re finished!
I’ll post more pictures of the bachelorette goodies and how the party went in a few weeks!
