For the holidays I wanted to make a sign for our bedroom with mistletoe and this was the result! It was not only easy and quick to do, but cheesy and romantic just like I wanted! ; )
5×7 wood plaque (found at most craft stores)
Wood stain marker (found right next to the wood plaques!)
1 small cup hook
Mounting hardware or hook to hang from
1 ½ wood letters spelling out “KISS ME”
Red and green acrylic paints
Small paint brush
Hot glue gun
*Despite it being mid-December I couldn’t find mistletoe anywhere! Not the real stuff, but just anything that resembled it! So for the “mistletoe” the closest I could find was on a string of garland and I snipped off the portion I wanted.
Start by painting your wooden letters. I alternated colors on mine but feel free to paint how you like. I let the first coat dry for 15 minutes and then applied a second layer. Set aside to dry.
Next, “stain” your wood plaque. With regular wood stain it can anywhere from 30 minutes to FOUR HOURS to dry, depending on how dark you want the stain. I’m far too impatient for that so this marker was the perfect solution and dried in less than 30 SECONDS!
Once you’ve covered the entire front surface and edges, screw your cup hook into the bottom to hang the mistletoe from. Attach mounting hardware to the back as well.
Now you can glue on your painted wood letters. Apply hot glue to the back of your first letter and place on your wood plaque. Hold for 30 seconds and then repeat with remaining letters.
(1.) For the “mistletoe” I removed the plastic ring around the stem to open the leaves up a bit. (2.) Next I put a dab of hot glue on the stem and wrapped a piece of ribbon (about 11 inches long) around it. (3.) To make a loop I wrapped the other end of the ribbon around and glued in place. (4.) Snip off another piece of ribbon and tie a bow around the stem to disguise any glue and you’re finished.
Hang it on the hook and mount your new sign over a doorway or on the wall above your bed!
