Skip the frozen pizza aisle and make a restaurant style pizza right at home! A garlic and basil crust, bubbly mozzarella, rich pesto, and slow aged pancetta are just a few items that make up this decadent pie!
(Dough will make two medium pizzas so be sure to double up the measurements for toppings if making two pizzas. If not you can freeze the other half of dough for another night!)
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 ¼ cup warm water
3 tsp active dry yeast (one packet)
1 ½ tsp honey
1 ½ tsp olive oil
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp dried basil
½ cup basil pesto – get the recipe here!
6-7 slices of fresh mozzarella
3-4 slices of prosciutto, cut into strips
3-4 slices of pancetta, cut into strips
3-4 slices of salame, cut into fourths
Freshly ground black pepper
Olive oil (optional)
In a large bowl, stir together water, yeast, honey, and 1 ½ tsp olive oil. Let sit for 10 minutes or until foamy. (1.) Slowly stir in 2 ½ cups of flour, garlic salt, and basil. Once dough comes together, work in additional flour, and form into a ball. (2.) Knead for a few minutes on a floured surface. Rub the same bowl with olive oil, place dough back in, turning and flipping to coat in olive oil. Cover with a towel and place in a warm place to rise for 1 hour and 30 minutes. (3.) After the dough has risen, punch it down on a floured surface, form into a ball, and put back in the bowl. Cover with a towel and let it sit for another 10 minutes. Prep your toppings, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. (4.) When dough is done, cover your rolling pin with flour and roll out dough about the same size of your pan. Carefully move dough on top of the parchment paper. Use your fingers to stretch the dough towards the edges.
Again, if you’re making two pizzas, divide your dough in half. You can freeze one half for a later date or cook them both.
(5.) Spread basil pesto over the dough, leaving a bare edge for crust. (6.) Top with mozzarella slices, prosciutto, pancetta, and salame. Sprinkle with ground pepper and drizzle with olive oil (optional). (7.) Place in the oven to bake for 10-15 minutes or until cheese is bubbly. (8.) Let pizza cool slightly, slice it up, and serve!
