To summarize my week in a few words I would use, stressful, overwhelming, smelly, and exhausting…
We were invited to camp in Eugene, OR for the Oregon Country Fair with friends and since they were visiting from out of town we decided not to miss an opportunity to spend time with them. We drove up Friday afternoon and while we were in bumper to bumper traffic for hours to get there, we were rear ended! We’re thankful we weren’t moving very fast so we weren’t hurt and my poor Corolla only suffered minor scratches.
We get to the campsite for the fair and its sensory overload! Glow sticks, dancing, bongo playing, live bands, fire dancers, and naked people. Yep.. you read correctly. Now I’m all for being a free-spirit and I don’t judge anyone for how they live their life, but after being stuck in traffic for 4 hours, getting rear-ended, and not whole-heartedly wanting to be there in the first place.. I couldn’t handle it. The first night was awful.. no indoor plumbing or running water, kids strung out on an array of drugs.. playing the bongos until 6am, and freezing cold!
The next day we decided to make the most of it and went to the fair. It was actually pretty cool to see so many eccentric, friendly, and… topless.. people in one place! We ate some great food, including organic cupcakes with lavender frosting (need to remake these ASAP!), and met a lot of interesting people.
We even stopped for a moment to add to a prayer tree next to a little meditation area!
After walking through for several hours I was feeling pretty “earthy” myself.. check out this gross dirt line from my moccasins! haha
We still didn’t get any sleep the second night and left early Sunday morning so Josh could make it to work in time, but all in all.. it was an experience. An overwhelming, smelly, fun, exhausting experience.
Josh has promised our next adventure will have indoor plumbing, a beach, and a hot stone massage included… I’m definitely keeping him to that!
