20 Best Nail Polish For Brittle Nails (2024 Update)

I got the pink tinted nail strengthener and at first really liked it. I decided to wear it on its own, and that was a mistake. In less than a day the polish would chip and flake off. It has absolutely not durability. I’ve removed it, tried prepping my nails, and reapplied it but still had the same problem. I wonder if this would be better under another nail polish, which is why I’m giving it three stars instead of two. I assume those who give this product 5 stars are wearing this underneath another polish and maybe that’s why it works for them. I was pleasantly surprised with how well this product works. I couldn’t believe the amount of growth my nails had made within just 3 days…not to mention they strengthened up a lot. My nails have been a little more brittle lately and this has helped tremendously! Plus, you get the added benefits of a smooth, shiny, pink-tinted nail while they are becoming stronger. It says to take the stuff off after 3 days but you can leave it with no consequences. You can instantly feel the protection added and see a pretty shine. I don’t know that I’d say you can instantly feel them becoming stronger, but you can definitely tell it’s doing it’s job and will be more resistant to stuff within the 3-day period. It doesn’t take much either (just two coats per nail), so one bottle will last you a good amount of time. You get a good amount for your money. Well worth it! Would definitely recommend. In the bottle this has a purple tint which is not noticeable once applied, it goes on completely clear. Instructions say to apply two layers and that's it. The product is a lot thinner than regular nail polish, so you need to make sure you are not picking up too much product! If you do accidentally apply too much it runs quick since it is so thin, and you need to remove it with the brush o make sure it does not spill over onto your skin. Other than that small issue it seems to work, my nails do look better and feel a little tougher. Best part is it just looks like a nice clear polish that gives your nails a lovely shine!Janaa

I love this product. Initially I went back and forth on purchasing this or a few competitor products, but went in to Ulta and this was available, so I grabbed it based on the reviews and I'm so glad that I did. I have used Nail Tek products for about 20 years, as their nail treatment/therapy products have worked wonders for me. My nail used to never grow. I began using Nail Tek, #2 with the cuticle/nail oil when preparing for my wedding in hopes to grow my own nails. I have used Nailtiques Formula 2 for many years. It absolutely improves the strength and look of my nails. The trick is to use it consistently and follow the directions to apply one coat daily. I make one to three applications a week to maintain the results and make sure I always have this on my nails. I don't wear color polish often but Nailtiques works great as a first coat with color polish as the second. If you are just starting out with Nailtiques I would suggest not using colored polish for the first few weeks and just use Nailtiques to give your nails a good start. Okay, this color is the CUTEST color of them all. This polish is thick and very pigmented rather than the regular essie nail polishes. This one strengthens your nails super well too! I had acrylics for 2 weeks then took them off and my nail beds were thin and very bad (dry/brittle) but after I used this nail polish for a week and after taking the polish off my nails were thicker and also hydrated!! When I took my old nail polish off this week my nails were peeling, which has never happened to me before. I sought out this product after trying 2 different brands “repairing” polish that were pretty terrible. At the store, there were two bottles labeled Minimally Modest but they were noticeably different, even after I shook them. I chose the one that was more pink vs. peach. I applied two coats and it looked pretty at first, but in daylight it’s really streaky. I think the streaks would be filled with three coats but the color would have been too light and opaque for a sheer polish. The formula seems smooth, feels good on my nails, and is long wearing, so I came here looking for another color. I’ll give it one more try and hope for better results.EvaE1izabeth

I had been curious about this product for a while, and when I found it marked down from it's original $10 price tag, I figured I'd give it a go. It's supposed to help dry, brittle nails in a week's time. I'm not sure about that. Essie has never been a brand that performs like a champ for me. It's okay, but I've always had better results from cheaper brands like Sinful Colors or comparable brands (price-wise) like Orly or OPI. Essie has come to be a brand that will get my attention, but I'll be looking at Sinful Colors, Orly and OPI first, and then I'll see what Essie has to offer. I like that this is a base coat that can be worn alone and it's supposed to have brightening pigments, kind of like a BB cream, but for nails. As something akin to a BB cream, it's pretty good. Just one coat and my nails look brighter and a bit healthier. Two coats, and even more so. With the second coat, the pearliness comes out and in some lighting my nails look a bit like the inside of a seashell, for what that's worth. It's subtle, though, so I like it for low-key polish.The contents are faintly lavender with a tiny hint of pearl to them, doing a nice job of concealing yellowing due to wearing nail polish most of the time. It actually makes a better difference on my nails than some other pale/sheer/pearl nail polishes, and it is a much nicer result than some other brands' sheer tinted polishes which I've tried in years past. This is basically what I was hoping for in a sheer, tinted product, so I'm very pleased with it. I don't even care if it strengthens my nails or makes them less brittle (it would be a nice occurrence, however, if it did) but I like that this makes my naked nails look nicer and I can easily apply one coat in a hurry for prettier nails on the fly. i have nails that wouldn't grow and when they finally start to grow breaks so easy. But i put my every word on this product. I have used about every nail strengtheners and growth on the market. But this one is everything in one it grows your nails on 3 days they are strong and all stay the same size. i really LOVE this product and recommends it to anyone that has trouble growing your real nails out. These products are inexpensive, and you can find them at Walmart and Amazon (amongst others). These products make your nails very strong, and protect them successfully from breaking. I have not had any breakage since I started using them. Previously I used a different nail hardener, but had breakage with that one.

This is certainly a handy all-in-one product that can be used as a base coat, top coat, fill-in, and nail protectant. I typically do gel or dip on my nails because they are very brittle and prone to flaking. I apply this product over my 1+ week old dip nails to give them extra shine. This product has a lovely, moisturizing gel-like texture that gives a wonderful shine. However, because it has a thicker, more moisturizing consistency, it takes a very long time to dry so would probably not be ideal as a top coat for regular nail polish. If you don’t touch it at all, the finish is beautiful, but even if you accidentally touch it hours later before it has fully dried, the finish can become texturized and dull. I think this is best used as a nail protectant over natural nails or over acrylic/dip/gel. It is super easy to apply with a generous large brush and (relatively) minimal nail polish odor. I would recommend this product on polish-breaks between manicures. It is also a great all-purpose travel polish. This treatment was super beneficial for my natural nails. I had just removed my acrylic nails at home with a regular nail file and some acetone, so my nails were weak, dry, and a little brittle. After washing my hands after all the abrasive removal, I put on two layers of this treatment and then some cuticle oil after it dried. Not only are my nails shiny and healthy-looking, they also feel a lot stronger than before. My nails have always been a little weaker and textured, but I genuinely would not be able to see that with this treatment on. My nails are also significantly smoother than they were with all the filing I did. I also found the smell to be quite pleasant compared to normal nail polish and acetone, but maybe that was because I applied it after smelling acetone fumes for a couple hours. While I love it as a treatment, I cannot vouch for it as a base coat nor a top coat, This could be a good “primer” for a base coat, but it doesn’t seem sticky enough to be a good base coat that helps polish adhere to it. I have been learning how to do my own ombre nails and nail stamping. It can be a long process to apply the many different layers to achieve the look I want, and it is very frustrating to go through all that work only to smear the polish on a nail and have to start over. Enter Sally Insta Dri Top Coat. This awesome little gem is a nice consistency and goes on nicely – it's not too thin, yet doesn't gloop everywhere either. It leaves a nice shiny, clear color, and speeds the drying process. It also does not soak through the nail stamping sealer coat, so it doesn't smear the stamped designs. I have tried some expensive top coats that permeate through the layers of polish and ruin the nail stamping designs. The best part, this top coat protects my manicure! I wash dishes, cook, do laundry, type on a computer, shuffle papers around, and this top coat protects through it all! As any nail professional will tell you, you must touch up your manicure with a good top coat every few days if you want to prolong the life of your manicure. This Sally Insta Dri Top Coat is perfect for that, too. I just apply a quick top coat every other day before I leave for work in the morning and it is completely set by the time I arrive at the office. Perfect! It took me weeks to finally get it in the mail, but I really like this product. My nails are badly damaged from gels and acrylics. The pink color is ok but would not be my choice. It does let me see where it has worn off on the edges more easily though. My nails are easily broken and thin to begin with, so damaged they are very fragile. This is the Orly Nailtrition treatment polish and it retails for $15 at Ulta. This is suppose to be a nail strengthener for peeling and splitting nails. The formula is thick, shiny, and pink. I was hoping for something more clear. Not a deal breaker. It makes the nails appear bright and shiny. I recently wanted to take a break from getting my nails done and had the acrylic removed. My nails were peeling and thin underneath. I thought I would give this product a try and after a month, I’m really not impressed. It did not make my nails any stronger, nor did it help them grow. I really did not have any expectations of this product when I first started using it but figured it was worth a shot. I had acrylics for over a decade and then had to stop during the pandemic. My natural nails were so damaged, brittle and peeling, I had given up the idea of having nice nails again. I thought the Nailtrition at best would bind the peeling nails and prevent them from splitting but my nails are growing so well and (knock on wood) haven’t broken or split since I’ve started using this. I bought this nail polish because it is plant base, which is something I have really been trying to look for in my beauty products lately. It was about $10 a bottle at CVS, so it’s comparable to Essie and OPI. I have to say, I really love this polish! I’ve had it on for 5 days now and it’s only starting to chip a little at my tips! It took 3 layers to apply a smooth and finished look. I will say it dried fast and I was rather surprised by that for liquid or polish. I however was not a fan of this color. It really just didn’t look good with my skin tone. Maybe in the summer when I’m tan? But it’s a no for me right now. The actual polish itself held up as to be expected for any nail polish. 2-3 days before I had noticeable chipping. I received the shades 345 Smokey Quartz and 410 Black Stone which are beautiful colors. The purple is light but has a grayish tint to it and shines really pretty and the black is a deep black and gives off a beautiful shine. The polish itself gives off a great color and smooth look but with one coat is just too thin, I did at least two coats to create a good layer and look. This polish is a very runny formula in my opinion so took some patience not to make a mess with it and drying time isn’t too long but the the turn out is pretty good and last a good few days before it starts to chip off. I overall think it’s a great polish and love that it’s vegan. I did receive the new vegan formulas but is giving me a list of the old ones so my shades aren’t there to put in my review.brittany .h

The whites of my nail tips started growing back within 48 hours! I’ve slaughtered my nails after using press-on nails with nail glue and salon gel manicures, but it was a stupid habit to get into because I have lovely, long, strong, and white-tipped nails naturally. Before the COVID situation I would get a gel manicure every two weeks. And now, I do not see myself going back to the nail salon. This mega formula lasts! My nails stay unchipped for 6 days straight! And when they started chipping it was only at the very tip of the nail! I typically only ever need two coats and I dont use a clear top coat. The colors are so pretty! The brush is super skinny I was worried at first, but it's super good, coverge and application is easy! I would definitely recommend this nail product if you also struggle with brittle nails prone to breakage. I use the clear as a base coat (although I wouldn’t wear it alone because it can look a little yellow, which seems to be common with clear coats, but figured I would mention it) and I do notice a difference – almost if my nails feel as if they’ve been more fortified. I would be curious to see if using one of the Mega Strength hardener pigmented shades on top of the clear coat would amplify its effect. I always struggle with painting my own nails in the first place, and I'm always looking for a top coat to make my nails look shiny and smooth like a gel polish but also dries fast. This top coat does just that. Sometimes I even use it alone to give my nails a nice shine. It doesn't stay tacky for very long and covers/smooths out any small imperfections in my base coat of color. The brush is big and wide which allows the whole nail to be covered in two swipes. It makes my nails feel very striong as well. Very nice polish! My only complaint is that the top coat peels off easily, especially around the cuticles. It doesn't take much to get a chip in it which also takes the underneath color off as well. It works well if you're the type to change the color of your nails every week but I like to get as long as possible out of my polishes so it is kind of frustrating. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this nail hardener. It keeps my nails super protected – they're prone to break and they haven't broken since I started using it. It adds a shine that makes my nails look like gel nails, which I love because gel manicures just destroy my nails. However, the shine is not very long lasting but I usually apply a coat whenever my polish is looking dull and it dries in 1 minute, which is so much more time-conscious than going to a salon to get a high-shine finish or just redoing my nails entirely. I do like the way this looks on my nails. It looks thicker on the nail than other top coats. However, you have to be like Goldilocks with application and use an amount that’s just right. If you use too much- your nails will never dry! Or you’ll think they are dry and then end up with a “dent” in one of them the next day. You must follow the instructions! My daughter bought me this a year ago (by accident – she thought it was the polish). I've used the polish before and found that it you miss a day, the nail crumbles where it chips off so I was quite glad! It doesn't work overnight but over months it really has made a huge difference. 9-14-20: This review is on the Sally Hansen, Hard as Nails, Vitamin Strength Serum. It took longer for me, compared to other reviewers, to see results. I used only this product on my nails (twice a day) for about one month. I wanted to see if it would work. I was going to give up on it, but I started seeing results. My nails have always peeled and broken easily. My nails are now stronger, thicker, longer and not peeling. I have sensitive skin and this item did not cause any irritation like some nail products do. I have also long used a ceramic/glass file, instead of an emery board, which can separate layers of the nail. The only suggestion I have on the Vitamin Strength Serum is that I think a brush would have worked better. I also wanted to comment on the packaging of item. I like that you can see through the bottle. I have used the "Nail Growth Serum" in the dark gold colored bottle. It works well, but I don't like how you can't see how much product is remaining in bottle. Also, like others commented, I did not like the dropper that bottle has.Lou1

This is my go to nail growth, strengthener polish. When I use it my nails are harder to break and they grow like crazy! It's easy to add polish over as well. We also discovered that it shows up under a black light. I have recommended it to every one. If you are having issue with your nails getting weak and breaking, give this a shot. The smell is like most nail polishes and can be strong but it dries super fast. It's worth the search for it. I have found it at grocery outlet, Walmart, Walgreens, Dollar general had it once. And several other stores. Sometimes it in the as seen on tv section.star.p

I've bought this before but ran out, so my nails have been weak and breaking. My twin, just by chance, was asking me what's the best strengthenter on the market. I know a lot about nails, and initially got on Wal-Mart to see if they carried it and was thrilled to find it! I bought some and so did my twin. We both adore the pink hue tint this gives off. She called me immediately and said, "You're right, this stuff instantly makes my nails harder!" I told her if you apply two coats, leave on for 2days, reapply again, then take it off in 5 days, to do all over again every week, you will get amazing long term results!!! I've been using this nail gel for a year or two and I use it mainly for the finish on my nails 💅. It leaves a light pink color on the nails, it isn't completely clear. I really love the way it makes my nails look. It dries really quick compare to other nail gels and for me it has worked wonders.🥰 Yes, my nails still chip but not because the gel is bad. It's because I don't wear the gel all the time and I carry a lot of boxes at work so I'm prone to damaging my nails easily. After I had acrylics on, my nails very super thin and brittle and wouldn’t grow! I’ve had strong nails my whole life and hadn’t experienced this before with acrylics so I was willing to try anything! This was recommended to me and after a few weeks my nails stopped breaking down and felt revitalized. Just go with the 3.88 Nail Aid brand instead of this outrageously priced top coat. It's not on sale so it's $10 and the first coat is very bumpy. Second coat smoothes it out but 2 days later and it's chipping. Honestly it's a total waste of money and I'll be buying Nail Aid from now on.Katie

I have suffered from peeling nails for years. I go in phases of my nails feeling pretty strong, to feeling weak again. Winter in SK has been taking its toll, so my nails have been peeling and breaking a lot lately. I decided to give this nail treatment a go as I haven't used it before. I've been using it a week now and it seems to be working. I remove and put a fresh coat on every couple of days as it's not a long-lasting polish. It goes on as polish, but doesn't have the strong smell. It has a super shiny finish. My nails have definitely grown and they do feel stronger. I haven't broken one since using itnicola.g

I do a lot in my life, I'm a mom, I do dishes, laundry, gardening, crafts, etc. My hands get VERY dirty, so I have to wash them probably 20+ times a day, and it makes my my nails get so weak and brittle and they've always been prone to chipping, breaking, etc. but this stuff is so good at sealing the nail with a nice shiny coat! It glides on easily, and dries pretty fast. I've done multiple thin layers and one thick layer and both have worked well. My nails have been bothering me so much that I've had nail hardener on my shopping list for a while now since my nails kept breaking and chipping, but then this came in my mailbox! I mean, it really makes a difference when you see how flexible your nail was before vs. after applying. After having this on for a week, I went to do the dishes and jammed my thumb on the sink handle, and already was reaching for the nail file because I thought my nail broke for SURE! But nope! it held up with this stuff on! I also notice my nails don't get as thin and weak when they sit in water for a while with this stuff, but of course it wears the coat down when you swim or have wet hands for long periods of time. I'm planning on getting another bottle to use on my feet after showers because my toe nails could use some help with cracking too! I definitely recommend this if you've never tried a Sally Hansen strengthener!jamie.r

I was looking for a new top coat for my nails and generally have good results with Sally Hansen products but this stuff drives me insane. It doesn't matter how dry my polish is before I put this on or how long I let it sit before I move on with my life, this stuff never ever seems to fully dry. I could paint my nails at noon and go to bed at 11pm and I'll wake up with imprints in my nails from my sheets. I thought I wasn't giving my polish enough time to dry (I usually use the Sally Hansen quick drying polishes) so I timed it and waited about 30 minutes between coats. I let the top coat sit for an hour, then dunked my hands in ice water and made sure I was super extra careful when preparing food that evening. After cooking, I looked at my nails and had a huge divot in the polish on my pinky nail. My other nails all have bunching at the top where the polish was pushed back from doing who knows what (literally just living life as normal). I forgot to put this on when I painted my nails last week with the same polish and had no issues until I did a deep clean of my house at the end of the week (using chemicals without gloves). I don't think I'm going to ever use this top coat again.J

Okay, this color is the CUTEST color of them all. This polish is thick and very pigmented rather than the regular essie nail polishes. This one strengthens your nails super well too! I had acrylics for 2 weeks then took them off and my nail beds were thin and very bad (dry/brittle) but after I used this nail polish for a week and after taking the polish off my nails were thicker and also hydrated!! I definitely LOVE this polish and recommend it for anyone who wears acrylics/gel nails a lot!! It's a great treatment to get your nails back in shape. When I took my old nail polish off this week my nails were peeling, which has never happened to me before. I sought out this product after trying 2 different brands “repairing” polish that were pretty terrible. At the store, there were two bottles labeled Minimally Modest but they were noticeably different, even after I shook them. I chose the one that was more pink vs. peach. I applied two coats and it looked pretty at first, but in daylight it’s really streaky. I think the streaks would be filled with three coats but the color would have been too light and opaque for a sheer polish. The formula seems smooth, feels good on my nails, and is long wearing, so I came here looking for another color. I’ll give it one more try and hope for better results.EvaE1izabeth

I had been curious about this product for a while, and when I found it marked down from it's original $10 price tag, I figured I'd give it a go. It's supposed to help dry, brittle nails in a week's time. I'm not sure about that. Essie has never been a brand that performs like a champ for me. It's okay, but I've always had better results from cheaper brands like Sinful Colors or comparable brands (price-wise) like Orly or OPI. Essie has come to be a brand that will get my attention, but I'll be looking at Sinful Colors, Orly and OPI first, and then I'll see what Essie has to offer. I like that this is a base coat that can be worn alone and it's supposed to have brightening pigments, kind of like a BB cream, but for nails. As something akin to a BB cream, it's pretty good. Just one coat and my nails look brighter and a bit healthier. Two coats, and even more so. With the second coat, the pearliness comes out and in some lighting my nails look a bit like the inside of a seashell, for what that's worth. It's subtle, though, so I like it for low-key polish.The contents are faintly lavender with a tiny hint of pearl to them, doing a nice job of concealing yellowing due to wearing nail polish most of the time. It actually makes a better difference on my nails than some other pale/sheer/pearl nail polishes, and it is a much nicer result than some other brands' sheer tinted polishes which I've tried in years past. This is basically what I was hoping for in a sheer, tinted product, so I'm very pleased with it. I don't even care if it strengthens my nails or makes them less brittle (it would be a nice occurrence, however, if it did) but I like that this makes my naked nails look nicer and I can easily apply one coat in a hurry for prettier nails on the fly. (Dry time is okay; it's pretty speedy for a single coat, but a second coat stays a bit tacky for slightly longer than I'd like.) Since it's a basecoat, I know it will at least make my nails somewhat less likely to chip. But for the prettier, brighter nails I get after applying this, I love it enough that I'd consider repurchasing. At full price, no less.darling87
