I love Kristen FS26/31S6. It is my go to wig. I have my bio hair but due to Chronic illness, it wears me out to fix it. Bio hair is also very very thin on top now. I would give her 5 stars… however for me, the lace does irritate the skin after a couple hours. I am a redhead with very sensitive skin. Also, I have ordered several of this same wig, and they all have a little variance to them. I have learned how wigs are made and why that is. It is not a machine producing exact replicas. Omg.. how come I did not know about this website?! I wasted hundreds of dollars over cheap wigs from nearby stores to my house😖 After finding out about this online store a couple weeks ago, I finally decided to give it a try… although pricey, but tbh- these wigs hold their value at that price. You can barely tell it’s a wig! It looks super natural! It’s super soft! I just love it like a pet! 😂 One downside I would say is that it’s very sensitive to heat… I wore it the first day, and I was baking some goodies… and I opened the oven up and hot air swooshed in my face and I heard my poor new wig crunch! Yes it’s my fault- but it makes me wonder how long it can stay before drying up and becoming a complete bird’s nest when worn on hot summer days. I own many Kristens in different colors. Really a great style and comfortable cap. I had a really hard time debating on Kristen and Jamison and now that I have both I must say I much prefer Kristen. The face framing layers are great on my round face. I am sure the permatease is mentioned in many reviews and yes it's there but it's not bad. Rather than trying to press it down if you use a wide tooth comb to lift the hair up you won't really see it. Also before you started wearing wigs how often did you go around inspecting the crowns of stangers heads? I got this in a 99J. The color is so pretty and the curls are gorgeous this is one of my top five favorite wigs. It is curling synthetic wig so it tangles at the nape of the neck. Also the swoop of hair in the front hangs in my eyes unless I use a bobby pin, isn't a big deal. In this picture I haven't cut the lace close enough. I cut it closer and now the hairline looks very natural. However, for me, the pre style the wig comes in is way too young. After a hysterectomy & menopause that followed resulting in 1/4 of my hair gradually thinning and trying every supplement including PRP treatments I realized preserving the hair I had was the focus, since after 5yrs and thousands of dollars later, the hair that had thinned was not going to grow back. I work in the medical field, at an Oncology / Bone Marrow Transplant Center so the topic of wigs is something I'm very familiar with. Many of the patients I work with rave about Jon Ranau wigs so I figured I'd give that brand a try. I've purchased a couple so far to ensure I have a new backup always on hand and plan to venture into other styles & colors but so far I'm extremely pleased with the quality of the cap/top & synthetic hair, style & color and it's so easy to maintain!
The wig was already thinning in the front when I got it and I can't hide this with bio hair because the lace is too long (can't cut the lace because it is the only thing gripping the front, there are no clips). I don't recommend this piece for people with small/low foreheads, maybe if you are completely bald with no bio hair it might work for you but not if you have pale skin because the knots are very dark and the lace is tan. I tried to straighten the hair on low heat and it made a melting smell, I question if all the hair is real. The cap is also extremely itchy and the lace is not soft (because the lace grips) so it is uncomfortable when it sits on my forehead. I would need to sew in clips and then seal off the lace so it doesn't unravel when trimmed, but for $2000 I would expect this to be of better quality. I own many wigs and hair toppers, I am always disappointed in Jon Renau but I took a risk because I liked the color. The Jon Renau brand is not carried much anymore because their pieces are just not worth the price. I am just going to have to stick with Uniwigs because at least I know what to expect and they are keeping up with the trends for comfort and affordability.LS
The hair piece is nicely made and the color was spot-on. I really, really wanted to like this wig. My overall problem was the style… and was in a few of the reviews I had read prior. The front part was over bearing and so much so that it wouldn't stay out of my face…. almost like there was too much hair. While I didn't try to style the piece or trim to see if that would make a difference (didn't want to do anything in case I returned, which I did), so it's possible I could have made it work. But I just couldn't get past the front portion of the wig and all the volume; I couldn't figure out what to do with it! I am not new to hair pieces, wigs and extension pony-tails so I am aware that some effort is-or-might be necessary, etc., but it simply just looked fake on me. When I saw a picture of this wig, I thought to myself "finally!" This is the style I have been looking for for a while, short, straight, not too much hair, an Ignite but with a longer back. Unfortunately, this wig has a very small cap. It cannot possibly be average size. Average size fits usually lose on my head and this wig I could barely squeeze on. Secondly, it has no lace front. I am too used by now to wearing a lace front monofilament to feel comfortable wearing a wig without. I guess this is what you get for the price. The color and the fibers were great, but I had to return mainly because the cap was far too small.Mimi
The biggest problem I found with this wig was the fit. Average was too big, but petite felt too small. I have a Goldilocks size head and I found the ear tabs on the petite were way too high on my temples, but the front and back fit ok. I bought it on sale and thought I would take a risk even if it wasn’t perfect (and it’s not). The hair itself is good quality and appears to be well made and the style is very cute. I only wish there was a better way to buy wigs other than to pay upfront for an online item, only to find out it’s not quite right. It seems if you can try on hairstyles virtually, there should be a way to try on wigs virtually. If you could upload a photo or enter the dimensions of your head and then try on virtually, you can get an idea of where the ear tabs will fall, for example or how long the bangs will be. It would save a lot of time and money on returns. Eventually, someone will invent it, but until then, buying wigs online is a crapshoot. I prefer to buy locally, however most wig shops don’t carry a very large variety and if you buy the same wig through a wig shop, it will cost double.Vee B.

The cap on this wig is definitely better quality than my cheaper amazon wigs (I like that it has velcro straps), but the hair itself both tangles and comes out more easily than my cheapy $30-50 wigs, which is unfortunate. I'd recommend not even bothering to try to do a half updo with this wig, which I'm personally disappointed by but that's okay, it looks good down. The lace came pre-cut, not sure if it was supposed to, but it fits perfectly and blends right into my pale skin, which is great. Hairline is great, pretty natural looking. I ordered the color FS4/33/30A Midnight Cocoa – the highlights are so chunky right up into the part (see pics). Doesn't matter which way you part it, you have giant stripes in your hair with this color (not too noticeable from straight on or from the side but I disapprove still haha). So I would NOT recommend the colors with highlights like this one, just get a solid color. So overall, I wish I got a different color, but that's on me. I have severe hair loss on top of my head. Bad enough that I never leave my bedroom without wearing some kind of wig or hair system. This particular wig has become my go-to choice whenever I want a quick change of color or an easy swap to something already styled, for an evening or a whole day. I own several much more expensive human hair wigs, including a similar length, custom made, human hair partial wig, which is designed as a medical prosthetic that I can wear for a week or longer without removing it. Yet I also own and continue to purchase this Gayle wig, in my normal auburn color as well as in black, blonde, silvery grey, redhead, and other colors. It’s comfortable, and totally passes in public situations, including nightclubbing, as if it was my own hair. I ordered SF13/16 Misty Mocha Average. The overall color is nice but I'm not fond of how dark the ends get. But since I trimmed 3 or 4 inches off the length, the darker color blends in well now. The color looks a little different in different lights. I'm not a fan of perma tease but this style is not too noticeable with the little shorts stubs because of the waviness of the style. I give it four stars for potential, because right out of the box , I had these challenges: Too much hair, both length and thickness. I trimmed the bangs, which many people expect to do. I thinned out the thickness and length with thinning shears which I assume not everyone knows how to do. Starting at chin length holding a few strands the width of about an inch or more, I make one cut every two inches down and brush the cut pieces out. I then took off overall length to my taste. I'm in my 60's so I expected to be able to style it back and/or up. The changes I made allowed me to be happy with it. I will probably not purchase any wig as full and long as this again. One is enough! I wore it a few times this Spring before the heat and look forward to wearing it again in the fall.Carla
This review is for the last two wigs I purchased, which, after purchasing from Paula Young for decades, will be the last two wigs I purchase from this company. First, Gayle is cute, makes me look younger, but the hair is a bit dry and not shiny like all the other wigs I have received, making me think it's not a fresh, new wig. On the other hand, the other wig I ordered, Arielle, was not available in any color I wanted, so I took a chance and ordered something more "wild," not realizing that color cost more. When I donned the wig, I was horrified–it looked terrible on me. I wanted to return it, but was told Paula Young would charge me $8.95, or I could pay postage myself to send it back. I can't tell you how much I love this wig! But I'll try. First off, let me say I was really skeptical about this wig cause I had never worn a wig with such short hair. I'm usually going for mid length to long haired wigs. I wanted to try something knew and go outside my comfort zone for my birthday. I'm so glad that I did. EVERYONE was complementing me! While I was at it, I purchase two more in different colors. Overall I still love these wigs. I love the quality. I love that it doesn't shed. Most of all I love that it doesn't tangle. I've been waiting on this color for awhile. This style is modern and flattering. Very trendy and youthful for any age. You can wear it right out of the box. The silver shade is gorgeous and the rooting is beautiful. It will probably be one of my top favorites to wear out of my 60 wigs. The hair is silky and natural with great movement. The only one thing I dislike it the top band which has a velvet material, for some reason ittitates my skin. I think over time it will soften or maybe I will get used to it. The overall cap is lightweight and comfortable. It is a stunning edgy wig and I think it is well done.

I received my Wren just before christmas and have been wearing it for about a month now. I needed to do some altering to make it wearable. It was very thick at the bottom so I thinned it abit jus from half of the lenght. I also made the part more visible by pulling out some hair. I notice this wig is very set, and not easy to style in different ways like I have done with other wigs. It has turned a little frizzy after a months wear. The color is r14/26h. I do like this color as a light brown/blonde. I do not like that there is not a slightly darker root and I do think that the alternative a root 4 is too dark for me. My solution is to make root with rootpowder. Works fine, but I would prefer a wig with root in color around 10 for this wig. All in all wig is ok, but nothing more. I will wear this wig still, but not a favorite I will reorder.Betsy

I have this wig in the colour R6/28 F which is chestnut brown with red frost. I would say that the highlights look more blond/golden than I expected but looks good either way since they are evenly divided throughout. The fibers are smooth with fine density. A little shiny, but not too much. The wig is cut in layers that gives a lift to the face and a feminine shape. The length is practical with the longest locks in front and short hair in the neck. It would be a good to idea to ruffle the middle part a bit as the zigzag middle part may seem a little too perfect. I generally like that the hair color is not in one color/solid as it can make it clearer that it is a wig by giving a clearer contrast to the face – especially with light skin tone. The lace front presses a little into the forehead and there could have been a larger amount of hair. If you are completely bare for your own hair, then this lace front can give away that it isn’t your own hair line – but then again, this can be improved by changing the middle parting. The cap is comfortable. Overall good value and a safe choice straight out of the box.Kristin
my new Avalon wig is a disappointment. I loved it when I first got it, but she tangles constantly. It's much more excessive than the normal tangle. I noticed the density is lighter than the Avalon from a few years ago. I'm not sure if they changed the fiber itself, or if I got a dud. The nape on most wigs tangle and you have to use the wide tooth comb and detangling spray throughout the day. This wig is in a constant state of matting and tangles at the nape, and even the outside portion of the sides and back that do not touch clothes are just constantly tangling, the fibers are also looking frizzy very quickly, not something that usually happens on the parts of the synthetic wigs that don't come in contact with clothes. I can't return it, I already cut out the tags and adjusters, I am just surprised that this is happening this quickly on this wig. I know my Finns in Americano and Toffee Latte wore out at the bottom sooner than the normal colors, I figured it was due to the hand painted colors at the end, when I had my MacKenzie in 8/12 those fibers lasted. That's why I chose a regular color on Avalon I figured it would have been better than the coffee collection colors. But this wig is not holding up. I did at the suggestion of Amy @ wigstudio1 try a conditioning treatment, I used the Estetica conditioner and the Bamboo Silicon and the fibers still look matted, frizzy and almost like the fibers were razored. I've only had this wig less than 2 weeks. Most synthetics last substantially longer for months and years.cecelia g.

It’s not the perfect color for me, as I prefer cooler tones, but she’s absolutely STUNNING! The only thing I really struggle with about the color is the one harsh and chunky blonde streak towards the front. Everywhere else, the colors are beautifully and lightly streaked and blend very well. I lean more to a petite size, so she does shift if I don’t use “It Stays,” even with tightening the straps. I also wish the permatease wasn’t so thick at the temples. Her movement is flawless and she looks very natural. Although, the knotting at the hairline is a bit thick and very dark. I did carefully pluck a little and feel better about the lace front, now. The length is perfect for me as it’s the length I’m used to wearing with my bio hair (until I recently cut it to fit better under wigs). She’s my first wig, with Heat by Jon Renau being my second. So, we’re still getting acquainted. But, the more I reach for her, the more comfortable I’m becoming wearing her. I’ve been suffering hair loss for ten years since having a radical hysterectomy due to uterine cancer. So, to have a thick and healthy head of hair, via wigs, has been a wonderful experience. After a hysterectomy & menopause that followed resulting in 1/4 of my hair gradually thinning and trying every supplement including PRP treatments I realized preserving the hair I had was the focus, since after 5yrs and thousands of dollars later, the hair that had thinned was not going to grow back. I work in the medical field, at an Oncology / Bone Marrow Transplant Center so the topic of wigs is something I'm very familiar with. Many of the patients I work with rave about Jon Ranau wigs so I figured I'd give that brand a try. I've purchased a couple so far to ensure I have a new backup always on hand and plan to venture into other styles & colors but so far I'm extremely pleased with the quality of the cap/top & synthetic hair, style & color and it's so easy to maintain!
The wig was already thinning in the front when I got it and I can't hide this with bio hair because the lace is too long (can't cut the lace because it is the only thing gripping the front, there are no clips). I don't recommend this piece for people with small/low foreheads, maybe if you are completely bald with no bio hair it might work for you but not if you have pale skin because the knots are very dark and the lace is tan. I tried to straighten the hair on low heat and it made a melting smell, I question if all the hair is real. The cap is also extremely itchy and the lace is not soft (because the lace grips) so it is uncomfortable when it sits on my forehead. I would need to sew in clips and then seal off the lace so it doesn't unravel when trimmed, but for $2000 I would expect this to be of better quality. I own many wigs and hair toppers, I am always disappointed in Jon Renau but I took a risk because I liked the color. The Jon Renau brand is not carried much anymore because their pieces are just not worth the price. I am just going to have to stick with Uniwigs because at least I know what to expect and they are keeping up with the trends for comfort and affordability.LS
The hair piece is nicely made and the color was spot-on. I really, really wanted to like this wig. My overall problem was the style… and was in a few of the reviews I had read prior. The front part was over bearing and so much so that it wouldn't stay out of my face…. almost like there was too much hair. While I didn't try to style the piece or trim to see if that would make a difference (didn't want to do anything in case I returned, which I did), so it's possible I could have made it work. But I just couldn't get past the front portion of the wig and all the volume; I couldn't figure out what to do with it! I am not new to hair pieces, wigs and extension pony-tails so I am aware that some effort is-or-might be necessary, etc., but it simply just looked fake on me. I only deducted 1 Star because it might have been fixable but $300.++ I didn't want to take that chance so I returned. But overall, the wig is pretty and the cap is comfy. Good luck!Susie

This topper is gorgeous. I tried so hard to make it work, but it didn't fit my head quite right. I have a petite sized head, and this has too much hair at the crown and looked quite big and poofy on me when pulled over the thinning area near my front hairline. It looked best sitting a little further back on my head, but then it didn't cover the thinning area. I'm totally in love with the color I chose, however, 12FS8 Shaded Praline, and it matched my natural hair quite well. Jon Renau has a great color selection, and I love the soft fibers too. The fibers are definitely too shiny, but a little dry shampoo should tone down the shine. I returned this piece and when I receive my store credit I have decided to apply it towards a full wig, Jon Renau Mila in petite. I always wanted wavy hair anyway!Sara
Love this topper! It’s my first top style in the 18†length. Salted Caramel is my top choice in the Renau line- beautiful light to medium browns, warmed with red undertones and bold, golden highlights. The top style 12†version has always required some thinning to avoid a helmet head effect. This 18†piece is perfect! I set it about 1/2†back from my hairline, so I thin the topper just a little at this area, so there is no bump, where the hairlines meet. Very happy with this topper!Cheryl
I have started experimenting with top pieces after wearing wigs for many years. My main hair loss is at the top of my head and the sides have gotten much thinner as well. I still have a good amount of hair at the back of my head. My biggest challenge is fastening the piece to the front because I don’t want to lose the little hair I have left. I’ve been using a roll-on sticky product and that helps. The many clips that come fastened on the piece hold the rest in place. With all that said, I had the piece trimmed while on my head to cut bangs into it and trimmed some of the length so that it integrates into the sides and back of my natural hair. It looks great and is very comfortable. I think it will be more comfortable that a full wig during the summer months in FL. I’m still experimenting with other top pieces to compare comfort and fit. Very poor quality on all three. Bangs were sticking out, hair was falling out. Some clumps of hair were cut so short they stuck out like a sore thumb. The Carrie is the only wig I should ever own. I have had metastatic breast almost 5 years. I have had chemo 2 different times in 5 years and lost my hair twice. I was always afraid to spend the money on a human hair wig since I thought I might not make it. I sell real estate to support myself and I needed to look nice and polished. I wore the same synthetic wig and bought a new one every 2 months because it just did not hold up. Two months ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumor due to the metastatic breast cancer and had to shave the back of my hair due to surgery and radiation. The wig looked pretty great straight out of the box. I got a lot of compliments, which was great cause this was my first wig and I was really nervous about it looking too wiggy. I blend the lace front with my natural hair line and it looks pretty realistic. However, the wig came in way lighter than I was expecting and I plan on dying it darker. I order it in 12FS8, expecting it to be a dark blonde/ light brown and it was straight up yellow-blonde. The highlights, lowlights, and rooting are really nice and give it more of a realist look, but I still needed to dye it darker to be able to blend my hair line with the lace front. The first weekend I wore it I got caught in a rain storm and the wig frizzed super bad. I tried using some product to smooth it out (trying to avoid heat styling as not to damage the hair) but it's still pretty frizzy. I'm sure a flat iron can fix it, so I don't think its a huge deal. All in all, I'll probably buy again if I don't find something better.Chris
I recently received “Carrie” in Palm Sprngs Blonde. The wig is beautiful, versatile and light. Mine dried naturally with nice waves. It’s the most comfortable wig I’ve worn. This is my first human hair wig; I’ve been wearing synthetics for 3 years. Based upon my happy experience, I’m planning to invest in a longer, more expensive human hair wig next. One note: human hair wig colors will tend to be warmer than their synthetic counterparts and what shows for the swatch online. This human hair wig is a little darker and warmer than my synthetic wigs in Palm Springs Blonde, but Jon Renau makes a shampoo called In Tone Violet that will cool down the warm tones.
