20 Best Nail Tech Supplies (2024 Update)

Luckily I am a nerd and do thorough research on everything I'm about to buy.. so I anticipated needed a few other supplies *SUCH AS A CLEAR DIP POWDER* because this set only comes with Natural. Which is fine, I added a pot of Clear to my basket as well. After that I had all the tools and tutorials I needed to finish a natural looking set (with tips and rhinestone nail art) in under an HOUR my first try! Listen, I used to spend my ENTIRE Sunday doing a set of gels for myself, now that I'm in school I literally do not have the time.. and press ons kept popping off no matter how I applied. This set gives you all the instructions, is super comprehensive, and produces beautiful, strong nails in the simpliest, most user friendly way to get beautiful nails. I don't think I need to revisit gel. It's so messy and detail oriented. Low chemical, but I still had moments where I slipped a mask on to manage fumes.Chaya A.

I absolutely adore Kiara Sky Dip products! I’ve been using them for about three years total now, and I love the quality, the results, and all of the different colors available. It’s by far my favorite dip powder out of any other powders out there. I’ve tried quite a few on the market and this one is always my go to. The colors are vibrant and very pigmented, and the quality is outstanding. I bought this kit to teach myself how to do my own nails at home. I thoroughly love anything I can do myself at home. My nails tend to crack easily, gel doesn't always keep them sturdy and going to the salon every 2 weeks to get them done (gel or dip) is not in my budget. So I bought this kit to give my nails some strength while also looking great. Plus I suck at polish. I always get it everywhere when using my non-dominant hand to paint. The included instructions are pretty basic and give you a step by step guide that you need to be successful. It also helps that Kiara Sky has a YouTube channel to show you exactly how to do the dip manicure with the starter kit so with the included instructions and YT video, it's pretty fool proof. My first manicure was good, not great but for my very first attempt, I'd say it went pretty well! There are a few tools you will need that are not included in the kit and that includes a buffer block, nail file, manicure sticks and a fluffy brush to brush off excess powder left on your fingers (I used a clean makeup brush that I no longer use and it worked fine). I also like that the kit includes a brush saver to clean the polishes included and extra brush heads incase you need to replace them (This was nice as I pulled the bristles out of the topcoat head by mistake when wiping it off after using the brush saver). Overall, this kit is awesome. It takes a few tries to get used to but once you get the hang of it, you fly through it!Talia D.

So this is the Melody Susie Sheen Nail Drill. I ordered this in 2019. 5 STARS y'all!! It gets all five stars from me because it's just that good and still works as it did the day I bought it, 3 years ago. My bf loves for me to do his nails with this 😆 (he's a diva too). First thing I noticed when I unboxed it is it doesn't feel light, plastic-y and cheap. It has a "for professionals" feel to it. You may not know what I mean but you'll see once you order one. It works so good y'all! It comes with 6 drill bits and a case for storage, 6 sanding bands of diff grit levels, a baggie of sanding bands, user manual, the actual electric drill, and the power cord. The drill has two spins: clockwise and counter, plus it has a dial to go fast or slower. And the best part, it does an awesome job! I can't even fit everything I want to say in this review. I store mines in this cute little Victoria Secrets bag and everything fits perfectly. I highly recommend you add this to your nail kits.ashley.s

This was the first time I've ever done a successful nail extension on myself. I am incredibly impressed with this kit. My thumbs are too big for the largest tip in the set but I was able to combat that problem by using additional builder gel to create a perfect fit. I recommend shaping the cuticle area of the tip before you place them if your cuticle area is more round. I was able to create a custom fitting set successfully and I am sure it will go quicker next time. I would suggest having a nail drill and full hand curing lamp on hand for ease of use. I do not have a full hand curing lamp at this time so I was able to do my nails individually with the lamp provided. But seriously would be time saving to invest in a full size lamp lol. For someone who is new to gel polish and diy nail extensions this was very self explanatory and easy to follow. Would recommend to everyone!!Makenna M.

So user tip. Start with your pinky. Work your way towards your first finger and thumb. Otherwise trying to hold the nail down and use it light will be really hard. if you start with your pinky you can have full use of first finger and thumb till the very end. I chose the medium length. I have done my nails 4 times now. Twice I had a nail pop off. My thumb but that’s cuz I’m a cashier and I gripped something and used my nail not my actual thumb. I wish they had a way for you to just order your size nails once you know your nail size. They give you 00-10 I think and obviously you’re gonna be left with nails you can’t use cuz they don’t fit. Hardest part is holding the nail down to keep air pockets out while pressing the uv light button which as on the BACK of the uv light. Not very user friendly. A push down button on front base would have been smarter. So one star loss for that reason. Either way I love this kit. This picture is after a week of growth and my first attempt at ombré glitter, not easy so I can see a lot of errors.Jack

This kit is absolutely worth every penny. I’ve been doing my own nails for about 2-3 years now, and the part I’ve always hated the most is having to apply the nail product — whether that’s polygel, gel, or acrylic — because I’m a perfectionist and it takes me forever to do so. This kit cuts the time that I would usually take to do my nails in half. Applying them takes a little practice the first time you use the kit, but by the time you’re on your other hand, it’s much easier. I’ve applied fake full-cover tips with gel bottom coat polish before and they don’t last NEARLY as long as these. As I’m typing this out, I still have a set on that I applied over 5 weeks ago. While they’ve definitely grown out, I’m still not seeing any lifting whatsoever at the cuticle. Doing a fill-in is super easy with these as well, which should help save product overtime and make keeping your nails up much easier. Highly recommend!Moses P.

This dipping system is a huge YES! it costs exactly the same amount as one professional dip manicure and if you are patient and willing to learn a new skill you will save yourself hundreds of dollars with this investment. Because I do have a track record of painting outside the lines with regular nail polish, I was nervous that this would prove disastrous in doing my own dip. However, the consistency of the liquid bonders etc. are very thin meaning they were incredible easy to control. My recommendation to anyone looking to start doing DIY dip nails is to also invest in a nail drill, and a cheap nail brush (that won’t loose its hairs) to brush access powders. I also purchased nail caps to help ease the process of removing my dip manicures, (I absolutely detest sticking my fingers in a bowl of acetone. I much prefer clamping the cotton to my nails). Finally, the best pro tip I can give is to not worry about going overboard when your painting the liquid steps onto your nails. Recalling how quickly the women at my salon painted on step 1, I attempted to create the thinnest layer I could on my first attempt of my first couple nails. That method proved to be a fail and the dip spread out unevenly across the nail and I had to start over again. On the rest of my hand I made sure to make sure I made a solid wet layer across the nail, and each time I pulled my perfectly coated finger out of the powder I wanted to scream with joy! While this product may look intimidating, it really is quiet easy. I should mention that you can also mix and Match whatever brands of powder you want to use with this system as well. I've never had my nails done at a salon, so I've never had any exposure to the process of gel, acrylic or dip nails. I've just always used plain ol' nail polish, but I'm very active and finally got fed up with even the "best" quality nail polishes chipping within 2 days of application. Enter: Dipwell. Compared to some other kits and brands I've seen, Dipwell is way more affordable. I can't speak to any quality differences among brands though since this is my first ever experience with dip powders. I had to do 2-3 full applications before I feel like I got a hang of the application techniques, so if you're used to getting dip nails done at the salon, this will likely be easier for you (assuming you pay attention to the process)! Even after the 2nd time and still looking a little sloppy in places, it still looked better than most regular nail polish applications. By my 3rd application, I was able to create cute ombre accent nails, so you can learn pretty quickly. One thing to note is that this can get MESSY (or maybe I'm still bad at this…), especially with all the filing and buffing residue. Clean-up is fairly easy, but as a total noob to acrylic systems of any kind, I didn't expect the amount of mess it can create. The instruction pamphlet is pretty clear, but I also watched lots of tutorial videos to get a more complete picture of the process. The colors are beautiful, but I wish there were better swatches and photos on hands on the website, because some colors are not well-represented by the single swatch on the website. Also, it would be great to see each color on different skin tones! Overall, the learning curve is short, the kit is easy to use, and I love that the powders are affordable. This system is great and if you’re thorough and diligent with the instructions your manicure will look great and last. I bought this when there was not a build your own option, and was disappointed to find that the naturale colors included were not my style. The lighter color is filled with glitter/sparkles which surprised me- I avoided the glitter set because I don’t like glitter- and the darker color is sort of a deep pink. I bought a kit for my friend a couple months after my purchase and discovered the build your own kit which was such a great option and she was very happy. Bummed it wasn’t available when I bought mine. Pros: great kit with good instructions, online videos are a bonus, and cruelty free (which is why I bought this brand) Cons: the pre-selected color kits might disappoint, the nail files are not labeled/ there are no instructions for which nail file is which grit- you just have to guess.Jennice O.

I purchased the NailTek Nail Recovery Kit after my nails were slightly damaged from using gel nail polish. I used this product for a few weeks and my nails got weaker and more brittle. I could not grow my nails at all and they would break while so short that they hurt. I stopped using this product and switched to Sally Hansen Advanced Hard as Nails Strengthener. My nails are finally growing and looking much healthier. I would not spend the money on this product.Tina

I got this in a whim. My nails have been all ridged and flaking ever since the pandemic started. The hand sanitizer and not getting acrylics anymore combined with age and they just look d awful, it sucked. Polish doesn't last and I tried other similar products that peeled or flakes much more easily. I am a hair dresser snd pretty rough with my hands so it does peel off occasionally but I am super impressed with this product's durability! The main thing I noticed right away is that over the years my nails had become flatter and wider, this product seems to have encouraged them back to their proper arched shape and they are much easier to shape the same same now.Betsy

Finally took the step, I bought the big. Bottle. I kept running out so fSt an couldn't do my nails . Now, yah. I'm so happy I love having the big Bottle. I have a more sense of comfort having the big bottle. Can't wait to see how long it lasts. After I'm done, I will compare prices to see if it is cheaper buying the smaller bottle sooner, or having the larger bottle. Its already 2xs plus $10 the price. This product is good for beginners. It gets the job done. It isn’t the clearest acrylic I have used but it is good for encapsulating. Be careful with how you apply thought because you can creates bubbles. Make sure to just keep practicing and you will get it!nina.b

I absolutely love this drill. The weight, color, and portability are amazing! It’s so pretty! I’m a beginner and it’s so easy to use. I can’t wait to get the matching LED lamp!! My photos don’t do it justice. Such a beautiful color. Came with everything in my photos. Only down side which isn’t that big of a deal or worth a return or exchange. The drill handle has a small scratch over the KS and the LCD screen has a dark spot on the top right but both aren’t that noticeable and don’t effect the use of the drill.Megan W.

I'm a licensed nail tech and I've always wanted this specific e-file from Kiara Sky but couldn't justify the price at the time. I believe I got this during their 20% entire site sale. Don't get me wrong, despite 20% off, it was still expensive but BOY DOES THIS WORK LIKE A DREAM. It's super quiet, powerful, and low maintenance. I was actually missing a piece in this kit but after reaching out to customer service, the piece was replaced quickly and I was able to sculpt nails right away.Jane L.

My drill arrived on Monday June 6th, 2022. I am blown away. This drill is awesome! There is absolutely no vibration and even at 35,000 there is almost no noise. I've tried many nail drill in the 22 years I've been doing my own nails. From the lower priced ones on Amazon ro more expensive brands like Medicool, iGel and Nail Genie. Okay, so far I love this thing. I bought it today. Did my fingers and toes, and I am giddy. I used to paint my nails all the time in high school and younger; used to like to do designs (stripes and what not) before there were appliques in every store. Festive/holiday colors, and all that jazz. I lost that drive when I became a barista years ago because nail polish is a no-no…I was excited when I could just do clear. I've gotten my nails professionally done like twice in my life, and, while it's neat to have it done, I've never been one to keep up on that sort of thing, partially because of the cost, partially because of time (and frequency), and partially because I'm just not that high-maintenance. Well, I'm in a job now where I have occasion to meet vendors, etc, and I need to look more professional on a regular basis. I was going to go to a salon this weekend, but I really didn't feel like laying down the cash for something that I was going to have to go back for repeatedly…but I also know that just painting my nails doesn't really work anymore because it chips off too easily and I *really* don't have the time to reapply every few days, and have to wait for it to dry without being productive (very annoying). So…long story short (too late), I took the plunge and bought this baby today. It came with Red Carpet Red (obviously), so I bought white as well and went with the classic French tips. They could look better, but that's only because I am out of practice and didn't use any guides, but, aside from my own lack of expertise in this area, I am as happy as I could be, and I will get better with practice. And now I'm actually *excited* to do my nails again. Can't wait to get some more colors and get all festive and junk. Fingers: It took about 2 hours from start to finish, but, as stated, I am out of practice…plus I had to read the instructions very carefully and do everything step-by-step because I didn't want to risk messing anything up…and it didn't help that I was watching Criminal Minds at the same time, as well as cooking dinner. I packed it up and then decided to do my toes (also French tip), and this time it took a little over an hour. So, considering that I didn't have to leave my living room *and* I got to watch Shemar Moore all within around the same time it might have taken to drive to a salon and get all four extremities done, I'd say this was a really good deal. It will have more than paid for itself in two 'visits.' Hopefully it will last as long as it should and my excitement will remain intact…but if it doesn't, I will at least first try to determine if it was 'user error.' I had tried a girlfriend's gel polish set a year or so ago and vowed I would get a set for myself. Well, I put it off and once in a while would look online and the prices would put me off. I was in Ulta one day with this same girlfriend and stumbled across the Red Carpet Manicure set in the train case – it was a great value anyways, but it was ON SALE! So, I bought it. I couldn't wait to go home and give it a shot!! I won't lie, the first attempt was a little rough – I put it on a little too thick and got a few ridges and bumps. So, I've done it again since then, put on much thinner coats, and my nails came out gorgeous!!! They're shiny and perfect and beautiful… and did I mention SHINY?!? I love it!! The Red Carpet Reddy color that came with the kit is a very classic and chic red and looks fabulous. I can't wait to get other colors and do a French manicure! Be sure to follow all the directions to the letter and you'll have a beautiful manicure. I've done it a few times now and it lasts at least 2 weeks, after that I found that my nail growth made a small gap. If it hadn't been for that, they probably would have last much longer. It took me longer to remove than to do a new manicure. I also love the fact that you can do things IMMEDIATELY after your nails are done. No more having to be careful for hours!! I've never had gels done at a salon, but I imagine anyone that does go regularly would save a fortune by getting this set. If you're on the fence, get it – you won't regret it!!Happy customer

I love this kit! If you follow the directions, your nails turn out just as good as getting them done at the salon. I am loving it. The only con is that the light is a little small so I have to do my thumb separately, but that's really not a big deal. The benefits and price of this kit, outweigh the small inconvenience. The go glam system was fun. Pros; cute nails with a fun stamp. the girls loved it. Cons: You can only use the polish provided. it is actually a glue. if you do not seal it with the top coat provided, it will wash off. it is hard to get off if you want it off. also, very tricky to get it just right. you are to wait 5 minutes after you polish to do the stamp, if you put the polish on too thick (as little girls tend to do) then it wont work. it takes a lot of trial and error to get it to work right. also a lot of adult supervision. i used it with kids ages 5,7.8.11, 13.Devosue

We were so excited to be selected to test this product out but it ended up in a huge disappointment. Right from the start, the packaging attracted us. The pink colour of the box and all things sparkly were on the cover along with a large circular dial that displays all the different stamp designs. The box pretty much told us its a full salon on the go and you would not need to purchase anything extra except for the batteries. It comes with the polish/top coat, the dryer, the stamps and even the toe separater. The instructions included pictures and were easy to follow. However, when we started, it was disappointment after disappointment. First, there's only 2 colours (pink and purple) and a top coat- ideally at least 4 colours would be great. After putting on our polish, we tried using the dryer. The fan from the dryer was so weak that I think blowing it dry by flapping my hands would have been a lot faster. Kids don't have much patience. You are supposed to be able to look through a lens that allows you to select the design that you want before applying. The lens was all scratched up and made the design look blurry. The biggest problem was the stamp. You're supposed to be able to insert your finger and just press down quickly and voila, you should have a pretty design on your nail (it's pretty much a sticker). I'm not sure if the tape that we had was old or it was dried out but no matter how many times we tried to apply the stamp, nothing would stick to our nails. We tried with a dried nail, semi-dried nail, fingers and toes and nothing worked. The best I could do was use my own nail polish and I managed to get a partial print. The finished product looked cheap and crappy. After numerous attempts, we just gave up. The product has so much potential and if some of the problems can be fixed, I would definitely purchase it if it ends up on the market. My 10 year old absolutely loved working with the Go Glam Nail Salon! The product was very easy to use and definitely covered all the bases from a built-in nail dryer to magnifying lights, to storage compartment for the polishes. They even made the product adaptable so that you can use it on your toes as well! The only complaint that we have, is that even with the clear top coat, the polish washes off almost immediately in water. If there was a way to make the polish more durable it would definitely be a five-star product. We are looking forward to experimenting more with it and trying to find a way to make the polish stay on a bit longer.Popsmom

I have no idea who decided it was a good idea to carry this brand/kit but they should be reprimanded for not doing their due diligence. The liquids are awful and the powder doesn’t cure all the way. When I went to file and shape my nails, the top layer (the one most accessible by the activator) started peeling back and whole chunks weren’t cured. It wasn’t hard at all. I ended up having to soak them off (which was another ordeal altogether). Now I have to try and find something else to use to fix my mom’s nails. I don’t trust any of the other dip products after this experience and I don’t want to reward them by spending more money, so I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I have never tried dip powder, but after seeing a lot of promotion online and seeing it in Sallys, I decided to give it a try. So far I really like it! I have done two sets. The first set lasted about 6 days and the second has lasted 9. It does seem to start raising from the cuticle but that is probably my error because I am still learning. Hopefully after I geet the hang of it they will last the 3 weeks as advertised. The kit came with a red powder and it seems to be very pigmented and only took about 2-3 coats. Where to start? I’m a former nail tech— of 10 years to be exact. I’ve tried many brands for regular polish, shellac, dip & acrylic. I like trying new, especially kits. This kit was very inexpensive. I read many reviews of wishing to get your money back and I bet you’ve spent more with not so pretty manicures you may have not gotten fixed. Any dip is easier to apply when you’ve had experience painting your own nails. Staying within the nail bed is definitely a must. Also—Don’t buff the top layer to remove. Use a coarse file to actually break the top seal for the acetone to soak through. If you experience clumping, you’re applying too much product (especially base coat). Believe me, it’s not the brand. Clumping can and will happen with even pricier nail brands if there’s too much product on the brush. Your nail tech didn’t perfect their manicures overnight. Practice really does make perfect here. Be patience with yourself if your first dip manicure doesn’t look instagram worthy. There’s enough product in this kit to try again.Chrystal

I'm hooked on polygel and have purchased every brand available. Modelones is the very best and most affordable. The gel moves easily and cures so beautifully. No need for filing. This is the easiest nails for diy andtbey are gorgeous. Creative or not anyone can make the prettiest setsof nails bc modelones come w everything uneed to have gorgeous nails u do at home yourself in about a hour and half. So easy and fun. This was my first time using Polygel and while I was able to create a couple of sets with this kit, there were some parts that don't make me want to buy it again. My brush was falling apart and the bristles stuck to the polygel on my nail even with slip solution. So they all came out and I ended up using my own brushes. Now having worked with other formulas, I can say that polygel should not be this sticky or stiff. It's not very malleable or easy to work with. With the exception of 1 tube, the gel was hard to squeeze out. I think that the colors were super pretty! But I would have liked to been able to use more than one. I DO like some Modelones products, so maybe I received a bad box? But it's not something I will purchase againkristen.a

I'm a cosmetologist and mainly talk about skincare, but I have a bit of an obsession with nails too. I started to take the extra class back in school to learn acrylic, but I just wasn't doing so great. So I took my extra classes in skincare instead. Here we are almost 15 years later and I'm seeing this fairly new product called polygel all over nail channels on You Tube. Polygel is a product that's a combination of acrylic and gel. It applies like acrylic, but won't cure until placed under a LED/UV lamp. That means you can work with it and work with it, and it won't cure until you're ready for it to. ANYWAY… I love this brand of polygels! It's so easy to work with (this photo was done with my non-dominant hand and was only the 2nd time I had free sculpted with my left hand!). It stays where you put it, but self levels just enough to smooth out brush strokes and minor unevenness on its own. My 4 year old LOVES having her nails painted and the little stickers. Her older sister picked this out for her for Christmas and she was so excited to try it out yesterday. But didn't work at all. We tried letting the nails dry for the 5 minutes it stated in the instructions, we tried letting the nails be more "tacky" and I tried just a minute or two after painting them. We only had ONE be somewhat successful. She was so disappointed. I tried different pressure. But the worst part as that the tape kept getting lose so I had to constantly pull it out to tighten it up, and the cartridges wouldn't come out. It's supposed to just have an "eject" button you press, but the cartridge wouldn't release. I had to really force it to get it out. So the ONLY reason this is even getting 2 stars is because the little fan to dry her nails is cute. But that is not worth the price I paid, even getting it on sale. We are so disappointed. It's a great concept, but awful execution. I could deal with sometimes the stickers not sticking to her nails, but the fact that I can't easily change out the cartridges is ridiculous.AZMommy

We were so excited to be selected to test this product out but it ended up in a huge disappointment. Right from the start, the packaging attracted us. The pink colour of the box and all things sparkly were on the cover along with a large circular dial that displays all the different stamp designs. The box pretty much told us its a full salon on the go and you would not need to purchase anything extra except for the batteries. It comes with the polish/top coat, the dryer, the stamps and even the toe separater. The instructions included pictures and were easy to follow. However, when we started, it was disappointment after disappointment. First, there's only 2 colours (pink and purple) and a top coat- ideally at least 4 colours would be great. After putting on our polish, we tried using the dryer. The fan from the dryer was so weak that I think blowing it dry by flapping my hands would have been a lot faster. Kids don't have much patience. You are supposed to be able to look through a lens that allows you to select the design that you want before applying. The lens was all scratched up and made the design look blurry. The biggest problem was the stamp. You're supposed to be able to insert your finger and just press down quickly and voila, you should have a pretty design on your nail (it's pretty much a sticker). I'm not sure if the tape that we had was old or it was dried out but no matter how many times we tried to apply the stamp, nothing would stick to our nails. We tried with a dried nail, semi-dried nail, fingers and toes and nothing worked. The best I could do was use my own nail polish and I managed to get a partial print. The finished product looked cheap and crappy. After numerous attempts, we just gave up. The product has so much potential and if some of the problems can be fixed, I would definitely purchase it if it ends up on the market. The instructions manual also shows that you can purchase a refill pack for additional colours and designs.Kolya88

I absolutely love this drill. The weight, color, and portability are amazing! It’s so pretty! I’m a beginner and it’s so easy to use. I can’t wait to get the matching LED lamp!! My photos don’t do it justice. Such a beautiful color. Came with everything in my photos. Only down side which isn’t that big of a deal or worth a return or exchange. The drill handle has a small scratch over the KS and the LCD screen has a dark spot on the top right but both aren’t that noticeable and don’t effect the use of the drill.Megan W.

I'm a licensed nail tech and I've always wanted this specific e-file from Kiara Sky but couldn't justify the price at the time. I believe I got this during their 20% entire site sale. Don't get me wrong, despite 20% off, it was still expensive but BOY DOES THIS WORK LIKE A DREAM. It's super quiet, powerful, and low maintenance. I was actually missing a piece in this kit but after reaching out to customer service, the piece was replaced quickly and I was able to sculpt nails right away.Jane L.

My drill arrived on Monday June 6th, 2022. I am blown away. This drill is awesome! There is absolutely no vibration and even at 35,000 there is almost no noise. I've tried many nail drill in the 22 years I've been doing my own nails. From the lower priced ones on Amazon ro more expensive brands like Medicool, iGel and Nail Genie. Yours is by far superior to any brand I've tried. I use your acrylic system and your gel polishes. They never disappoint Thanks!!.Lee H.

I do like the product but all nail kits should come with a primer and a dehydrator . Unfortunately due to that when i cleaned my nails and files them and trimmed them used the forms got my nails on filled them and bidded them out they all ended up lifting off .. Total saddness .Jennifer

It comes in 8 shades and this set makes me l like I have my own little nail salon at home. It's worth noting that out of the box the monomer has a strong smell. It is best to place the box in a plastic zipper before use. I absolutely love this set and would recommend it!LEROY
