Lovely late harvest Riesling and the superb Dr. Heidemanns Bernkastel Spatlase 2016… both xlnt Rieslings… this Hogue can hang with the B.Lovely offering… and at almost half the price is a GREAT value… the Heidemanns is a superior Riesling, IMO, but at 3X the price of the Hogue… well, let your budget be your guide. The nose is simple but pleasant, and the overall aroma slightly too much “sweet & sour”. Probably the weakest attribute is a hint of bubbles. I actually shake it vigorously an hour before drinking to get rid of the residual CO2. Because of its sweetness this 2019 Riesling is not a wine for any serious seafood, except perhaps garlic and butter shrimp. However, it goes very nicely with spicy dishes or almost any cheese, for example. It’s also a pleasant aperitif, with nuts. In my detailed evaluation I scored it at 2.7 stars, and the relatively low price makes it a bargain, although there are two or three better choices at under $10. [My rather demanding scoring system expressed in stars is not price-dependent but it means: 1 star – don’t drink, 2 – marginal, 3 – worth trying to quite good, 4 – very good to almost excellent, 5 – excellent through absolute perfection.]Desert Otter

Peter lehmann, with 33 vintages already under his belt, started his own winery in 1979, partly as a means of helping with the glut of grapes then afflicting the barossa. "i'll take your grapes and turn them into wine," he told the desperate growers, many of them conservative farmers of silesian descent who regarded their old vines as part of their patrimony. "but i'll only be able to pay you when i sell the wine." they gratefully accepted. without this deal, it is widely thought that the barossa would have lost a huge chunk of its old vines. crafted by the next generation of peter lehmann winemakers, the barossan showcases the superb fruit sourced from the many sub-regions across the barossa valley. parcels of high quality fruit were carefully selected from around 40 growers to produce a seamless blend of varying expressions of shiraz. the fruit was fermented and macerated on skins for up to two weeks, with 25% barrel fermentation. once blended, the wine was transferred into barrels, 50% of which were new american oak, the remainder being older french and american oak, for 15 months before bottling. a complex and layered wine with fruit intensity and suppleness. lifted cherry and brooding dark fruit aromas combine seamlessly with sweet chocolate and mocha undertones. an intense, generous and full bodied wine with fine tannins and a soft, supple finish.

This wine bursts with ripe peach, honeysuckle and a ton if floral aromas. Tasting the winde reveals it to be off-dry. It is certainly on the sweeter side, without being over whelming. The acidity helps balance out that sweetness and really makes for a very exquisite combination. Sweet and rich flavors of lime, peach and granny smith apple are extremely pleasant. To put simply, it’s just a delight to drink. On the crisp, long finish the fruit turns a bit tart and there’s even a hint of minerality. You really can't go wrong with this wine!mackenzie.s

I loved this Riesling from Winzer Krems from Kremstal in Austria. Peaches, lime zest, ginger, honeysuckle and bright acidity all combine to make the wine great for Thai cuisine with its subtle spice. I've finished my second kit. As with most Wine Lovers kits, I added 4 cups of sugar and 2oz of medium toasted American oak (I've made several dozen different kits). I like to let the reds sit on the lees for a week to 10 days after fermentation has finished, which helps to add some body. I've never been disappointed… and neither have those who have shared my 'experience'. The kits, as they are, perform well. I will NEVER buy from your company again. All of the packets that came with both of my wine kits were expired! Granted only by a month or so but still expired. The companies response was “that just effects the quality and is safe to use“ ***, they said they are having issues with expired packets but still send them out with the wine kits. What burns my *** is the company never apologized for this mistake only said “let us know how my wine turns out if there’s a problem they’ll work with me “ that’s the answer I got. This shows me that they really don’t care and that is fine with me because other companies sell wine kits. Looks at your packets before you start adding them in. My wine is not finished yet but either way I will never deal with them again I don’t even care if they refund my money.lawrence r.

I can’t begin to tell you the most pleasant experience I had making this wine. Every smell from beginning to end had aromas that were beyond any other wine that I purchased from another source. The charred oak I truly believe makes it happen. Prominent flavors of luscious cherries a hint of tobacco even the tannins are crisp and bright. I just bottled the batch but kept out one for us this weekend. This along with the Cabernet Franc will be amazing around Christmas. This kit had everything I needed. Since I already brewed my own beer and I keg since I don't like to fool with bottles, I decided to try my hand at wine making. I had all the hardware (bubblers, carboys, etc.) and decided to keg the wine and store in my kegerator. I followed the instructions to the letter, never proceeding until the hydrometer readings were achieved. Kegging was a bit more challenge, as the wine is more viscous than ale, porter or lager. I had to purchase portable spigots that had tight seals to prevent leakage (I lost 1/2 gallon due to poor seal on my plunger tap). All in all a good experience. I would recommend.Steve H.

We really enjoyed this Cab. It is our 3rd batch. It is the first time using this particular supplier. We were slightly concerned because the instructions for this kit are simpler than the other two recipes we did in the past and this one included three different packets of wood chips. However I really like the simplified steps with this kit. The wood added a nice element to the flavor and we will buy this one again. We decided to do a twist with this batch. One of the bottles we used was a Lagavulin 16yr old Scotch. We did not clean the bottle and left just a millimetre or two of scotch in the bottom. The wine out of that bottle was fantastic! It drank like a cab and smelled oakey smokey and was full bodied like a scotch.Aaron W.
