Sheet Music Lyric Wall Art
If you’re a music lover like me, you’ll love my easy tutorial on how to make a unique piece of artwork using old sheet music and lyrics from your favorite songs!
8×10 stretched canvas (bigger depending on how many words you want on yours)
2” vinyl letters
Sheet music (you can find piano music books at most thrift stores)
I used to play piano when I was younger so I have tons of recital books just collecting dust.. What better way to put them to use! Not only did I recycle those, but I came across a canvas that I attempted a project on a few months ago. As you can see, it was a flop but the canvas for the most part was still usable!
First pull a page out of your piano music book to use, crease around the edges of your canvas, and cut off any extra hanging over.
Pour out some Mod Podge and paint a thin layer over the entire canvas. Press your music (backside down) onto the canvas and press firmly. Run your hand over the entire page to smooth out any wrinkles or air bubbles.
Next spread a thin layer of Mod Podge over the top of your sheet music and edges where the page meets the canvas. Set aside to dry for 30-45 minutes
Once your Mod Podge is dry, carefully place your vinyl letting on. I use a sheet of paper to line my letters up straight. I’m a total sucker for 30’s and 40’s music so I went with “I’ll Be Seeing You” by Sammy Fain. My favorite version of the song is from Billie Holiday : )
Side note: I needed a slightly bigger canvas, maybe a 9×12 instead of 8×10, so my letters draped over the edges just a bit, but that’s what I’m here for..to make the mistakes so you don’t have to!
Find a well-ventilated area and spray a thick coat of spray paint over the entire canvas and edges. Let it dry for 45 minutes to an hour.
Once dry, slowly peel your lettering off, and you’re done!
This makes a great gift for loved ones or for you!
