Jack O’ Lantern DIY Canvas Night Light

October 7, 2012

Jack O’ Lantern DIY Canvas Night Light

I love carving pumpkins and having them on display all month, but what I don’t love is dealing with the soggy rotting mess when they’ve run their course. I decided to come up with an imperishable alternative so I could have my jack o’ lantern and enjoy it too!

…..

Supplies:

6 x 6” canvas with a deep edge. They typically come in a pack of 4 at Michael’s Crafts so if you accidentally mess up, you’ve got 3 more to work with!  $8.99 for a pack of 4

Orange spray paint

Cord with socket for night light or you can go cordless and use the LED pumpkin lights

Nail or tack

Pencil

Sticky tack or tape

_____

(1.) Start by lightly tracing a jack o’ lantern face onto your canvas. (2.) I just used triangle cut outs for the eyes and nose and free-handed the mouth. If you pick up the 4 pack canvas set you can do different faces and hang up the set! (3.) Next poke a trail of holes into the lines you just traced. (4.) It should look like a connect the dot puzzle when you’re finished!

In a well-ventilated area, spray edges and front of canvas with a layer of paint. Let dry 45 minutes to an hour before doing a 2nd coat. If any paint clogged up the holes, you can go back in once the canvas is dry and poke them in again.

Once your canvas is completely dry, stick your night light or LED light to the inside bottom edge of the canvas.

Hang it up on the wall and flip the switch!

Happy Halloween!
