Phew! Yesterday I spent nearly eight hours just cooking! Four recipes, one cocktail, and one wedding craft later and I’m finally finished..for now. My kitchen of course was in shambles, but it was all worth it! I have a lot of fun projects and delectable dishes coming your way!
Last week I had a quick tattoo session to put in some more work on my thigh and we’re just about finished.. with the first half. I still have a long and painful road ahead of me! I don’t like posting in-progress work, so you’ll just have to wait a little bit longer to see it!
We had some family visiting so we took them to the Columbia River Gorge to explore a few waterfalls. We lucked out with the weather and had a clear day finally, which provided breathtaking views from the Vista House.
Speaking of having this beautiful place to visit whenever we please.. Today is my three year Portland anniversary! It’s a little hard to believe that it’s been that long! I still remember balling my eyes out and hugging my girlfriends goodbye the night before and then having more tearful goodbyes with my parents that morning. My little red Corolla was packed to the roof with my belongings and my cat, Punk, was my road trip partner for the two day trip from Iowa to Oregon.
My attitude and outlook changed drastically in the first year I lived in Portland. I was suddenly very open about my feelings and made sure to express them, good or bad, to my friends and family. Your communication has to be strong or those bonds that you built in person, slowly fall apart. When I go back to visit we make the most of my time and we’re able to pick right back up like I never left. It’s still hard and I have the occasional rough patches of homesickness, but I know everyone is just a phone call away in the meantime.
I could write in-depth about my experience of moving my life across the country and some of the events that occurred, so you’ll have to let me know if you’re interested in ever hearing about it. Some of you are here just for the food and drinks, but this is after all, still a personal blog and I’d be happy to share more personal stories.
We’ve surrounded ourselves with great people here that have become a second family to us. I couldn’t be more grateful for the experiences I’ve had so far in this wonderfully weird city and I’m looking forward to many more!
I hope you’re all having a great week!
