If you’re looking for a Halloween sangria as black as your soul then you’ve come to the right place. This potent mixture calls for only the darkest fruits and spirits. Fresh blackberries, plums, grapes, dark rum, and Apothic Dark wine. This full bodied sangria is the perfect libation to enjoy while conjuring the dark forces… or just having a Halloween movie marathon at home if that’s more up your alley.
(makes 1 pitcher full – 6 glasses)
2 black plums, pitted and sliced
2 cups fresh blackberries, washed and patted dry
2 cups black grapes, washed and patted dry
1/2 cup spiced rum or bourbon
1 (750ml) bottle Apothic Dark or another dark blend wine
Club soda or champagne (optional)
Combine all ingredients into a large pitcher (or divide ingredients between two medium sized pitchers) except for club soda or champagne. Gently stir and press any fruit down so it’s submerged in the liquid.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 24 hours. I always like to taste test at this point. If you like a more potent wine flavor it will be best served after a day. For something a little bit sweeter, let the mixture sit 2 to 3 days so the fruit juices can infuse their flavor.
Wen you’re ready to serve, add a few pieces of fruit to glasses and fill with sangria. Top off with a little club soda or champagne for a bubbly version and serve right away.
